Rev Longland was ordained in 1902, having studied at Christ College, Cambridge. Before taking up the living at Leek Wootton he was an Assistant Master at Felsted School (1897-1900) and Wellington College (1900-13), Warden of Trinity College, Glenalmond (1913-23), Assistant Master at Rugby School and Public Preacher in Coventry Diocese (1923-1927).
He married Emily Ruth Louisa Rigby in 1908 and they had a daughter, Ruth Joyce, who would have been 17 when her parents came to Leek Wootton.
During his time in Leek Wootton, Rev Longland was also Editor of the Coventry Diocese Gazette and Examining Chaplain to the Bishop of Coventry from 1929.
Rev Longland was incumbent at Leek Wootton at the start of World War II. He was injured in a traffic collision in Emscote Road, Warwick, in July 1942, aged 69 and retired to the Highlands of Perthshire in August 1943, aged 70.
He died in December 1957 in Sussex.
